2. Requirement for Site-Specific Engineering Assessment
Due to the diverse geological, geotechnical, and hydrological variations across New Zealand (such as expansive Auckland clays, volcanic soils, high seismic risk zones, and coastal cliff instability), structural and civil engineering solutions must never be applied generically.
All building work, earth retention, and stormwater diversion require:
- Physical, on-site geotechnical testing (e.g. Scala penetrometer, hand auger boreholes, or CPT testing).
- Site-specific structural load calculations compliant with NZS 1170, NZS 3604, and the Auckland Unitary Plan (AUP).
- Formal issuance of a Producer Statement (PS1 - Design) signed by a registered Chartered Professional Engineer.
